The serve requires a high racket preparation to force a downward trajectory. Starting the racket above the waist allows for a downward strike on the ball, which creates slice and prevents the ball from bouncing high for the opponent. Bouncing the ball higher than usual helps maintain this high-to-low motion. Avoiding topspin is essential, as it causes the ball to kick up off the glass and makes it easier to return.

Effective net transition depends on serving in one fluid motion. Standing slightly behind the service line and stepping forward during the serve allows for a faster arrival at the net. A medium-paced serve toward the side glass is more effective than a high-speed serve, as it provides enough time to reach the net while forcing the opponent to handle a difficult bounce off the glass. Mixing in an occasional serve down the T keeps the opponent off balance after establishing the glass as the primary target. These techniques are most beneficial for players looking to secure the net position quickly.
