Serve technique: slice, direction and net transition

The serve starts with three primary directions: toward the side glass, the center T, or directly at the opponent's body. Serving to the glass forces a difficult rebound, while the center serve often dies if it touches the glass. Varying these targets prevents the opponent from anticipating the ball. Aim for high first-serve consistency to maintain pressure and confidence throughout the point.

Slice is the preferred spin because it keeps the ball low after hitting the glass, whereas topspin causes the ball to jump into a comfortable hitting zone. To execute a slice, bring the racket from high to low with the face open at 45 degrees. Push through the ball rather than chopping downwards to maintain depth. Position yourself one to two meters from the center line to ensure coverage of all three directions.

Finally, the serve is not an isolated shot but the start of the net transition. Move forward immediately after contact, aiming to reach a balanced position before the opponent returns the ball.
