Effective court positioning relies on maintaining a consistent distance from the glass while defending and moving as a pair to avoid leaving gaps. In the back court, players should stand in line with the glass separation or one large step behind the service line. Wandering forward during a rally puts both the player and their partner out of position. The transition to the net requires hitting a ball that provides sufficient time, such as a lob, to move quickly through the no man's land between the service line and the second post.
At the net, the ideal position is one small step in front of the second post. Standing too close to the net creates excessive space behind for opponents to lob, while drifting back into the transition zone forces a partner to cover extra ground. Lateral movement must remain symmetrical, with partners shifting together to cover the middle or the lines based on the ball's location. Freezing in place immediately after a point concludes helps players identify if they have maintained their base or drifted out of position.
