Moving as a pair: lateral and vertical positioning

Effective court coverage relies on moving as a synchronized unit. When returning from the back, both players aim to advance to the net together after a deep lob or a chiquita to the opponents' feet. This movement minimizes the gap in the middle of the court. Once at the net, the pair maintains that position as long as possible. If one player is lobbed, they retreat to defend, and their partner follows to ensure both remain in a defensive formation. If the lob is playable, the player hits a bandeja or similar shot and immediately sprints back to the net to reclaim the attacking position.

Lateral movement requires constant adjustment based on ball placement. When a player is pulled wide to the side glass, their partner shifts toward the center to cover the middle gap. At the net, the player hitting down the line maintains their position on the sideline, while the partner shifts to cover the center. Communication remains vital during these transitions, particularly when a player is turned away from the opponents to track a ball off the back glass. Knowing the opponents' positions allows for better shot selection and prevents leaving the court exposed.
