Bandeja technique: depth and body positioning

The bandeja serves as a defensive tool to maintain net position. Three variations exist based on the ball trajectory: straight to the playing shoulder, towards the body, and to the non-playing shoulder. When the ball arrives at the playing shoulder, the goal is depth. Hitting the ball deep behind the opponent's baseline prevents them from attacking and allows the player to recover the net. Avoid hitting hard if the ball lands near the net, as this pushes opponents forward.

For balls arriving at the body, avoid moving away to create space, as this sacrifices court position. Instead, hit at the highest point with an extended arm, playing from back to forward. When the ball comes to the non-playing shoulder, use a kick bandeja directed cross-court. Aim for the corners rather than the fence to minimize risk and keep the opponent under pressure. Proper footwork is paramount; move backward quickly to prepare the racket behind the neck before striking. Consistent results come from prioritizing feet movement over the shot itself.
