StarVie Raptor Pro Touch 20258

Conclusion

Volleys and kick smashes come off with more bite than you expect from a round racket. Best for advanced and technically solid intermediate players; if you defend a lot or still mishit often, pick the Raptor Soft. The trade-off is a central sweet spot and less time on the ball.

The Raptor is StarVie's round racket, and for 2025 the Pro version is back after a gap. The last Raptor Pro was a 2023 Tour Finals edition with a harder rubber. This one is built differently: a single layer of 12K carbon on the face instead of StarVie's classic double layer of 3K, and a new medium-hard Pro Touch rubber that sits between the soft Raptor and the old Pro. It looks identical to the Raptor Soft 2025, so the rubber is the real difference between the two.

On the scale, reviewers' units came in at 367–369g with the balance around 27 cm, which is fairly high for a round shape. StarVie has also moved the Raptor into its Premium range, one step below the Triton. List price sits around €260–270, and it is now often discounted.

What the Reviewers Say

What the reviewers say

The reviewers agree on the headline: this is a round racket with more punch than its shape suggests, and it asks for clean contact in return.

Fabio Ferro tested it side by side with the Raptor Soft, at the same weight and balance. The Pro Touch was clearly more powerful and had the stronger kick smash, but the sweet spot sits more centrally and the ball comes off faster. In his words: “It gives you less time on the ball, so you have to guide it with your hands.” He rated the kick smash 9 and the sweet spot 7, and still called the Soft the easier racket from the back of the court.

Roberto Cardi was the most enthusiastic. He praised the volleys, the blocks and the high balls: “For players who like a slightly firmer touch, this racket is a real powerhouse.” The one shot he marked down was the lob.

David BV at El Neverazo lands where Fabio does. He calls it “a technical racket, but with enough level you get a lot out of it,” and says it shines most in attacking play near the net, not in long defensive rallies.

Where they differ is how demanding it is. Cardi sees it working from intermediate level right up to pro players. Fabio and El Neverazo both stress that you need good technique to get the power out, and that the Soft is the safer pick if you defend a lot.

How it plays..

Our take: Kaj's summary

The Raptor Pro Touch 2025 is a good racket, but not a forgiving one. The sweet spot sits in the centre and the rubber reacts fast, so off-centre hits and late swings cost more than they would with the Raptor Soft. If you still mishit under pressure, the Soft will give you more. If you already strike the ball cleanly, you get real extra punch at the net and on the kick smash.

Defense

This is where the Soft keeps its edge. The Pro Touch sends the ball out of the back glass with plenty of pace, and Fabio Ferro rated its wall exits 8.5, but the ball leaves the face early and needs guiding. Lobs and scooped defensive balls come less easily than with the Soft, and Roberto Cardi also gave the lob his lowest mark.

Attack

The Pro Touch rubber gives a round frame real hitting power. The kick smash is the standout: Fabio rated it 9 and saw it bounce clearly higher than the Soft's. The flat smash is solid too, but because the sweet spot is central you either hit the middle or bring the power yourself. Fabio also felt it has a little less power than the old, heavier Raptor Pro.

Netplay

At the net it has more bite than the Soft and a slightly more honest feel, and the rough face still gives good spin. The víbora works well when you let the ball drop into the middle of the face instead of reaching for it high on the head. Roberto Cardi singled out the block: he felt no vibration on fast balls and rated it among the best he has tested for that shot.

Our Advice for New Players

Not a beginner racket. The central sweet spot and quick rebound punish mishits, and the price is hard to justify at this stage. A softer round racket with a large sweet spot is a better start.

Our Advice for Intermediate Players

Intermediates with a solid, compact swing can make it work, and El Neverazo also names intermediate to advanced players as the target. If your technique is still settling, or you spend a lot of time defending, the Raptor Soft 2025 is the easier choice with the same shape and weight.

Competitive level

Advanced players get the most from it: a round racket that can attack, with a strong kick smash, lively volleys and a stable block. It suits players on either side who want the control of a round shape without giving up finishing power.

How It Compares

How it compares

  • StarVie Raptor Soft 2025: same shape, looks and weight, with a softer rubber. Bigger sweet spot, easier ball exit and more time on the ball. Pick it if you defend a lot or are still improving.
  • StarVie Triton Pro Touch 2025: the same Pro Touch rubber in a teardrop with a double 3K face. Fabio Ferro rates its feel clearly higher and it hits harder, but it is also a step more demanding. Pick it if you play on the left and want more power.
