Volleying the bandeja: forcing opponent out of position

This tactic forces an opponent into no man's land by attacking their bandeja with a volley. The process begins with a high lob directed toward the opponent's backhand side. This height provides the time needed to transition from the back of the court to the net position. Once at the net, the goal is to block the incoming bandeja with a controlled, slow volley rather than attempting a high-risk winner. A slow, deep ball is often enough to keep the opponent off balance.

Technical execution relies on maintaining a continental grip. The top of the racket must remain higher than the hand, even when the ball is low. If the ball is low, the player should drop their body rather than changing the racket angle. When volleying, targeting the middle or the opponent's feet prevents them from recovering their defensive position. This approach works best when the lob is high but not too deep, as a very deep lob might allow the opponent to hit a bajada instead of a bandeja. The tactic is most effective against players who struggle with their overheads or when the opponent is forced to play from a difficult position.
