Volley and groundstroke consistency fundamentals

Improving consistency requires moving away from large, wrist-heavy swings. For volleys, the focus shifts to a compact push motion that engages the shoulders rather than bending the racket back. A flat groundstroke provides higher reliability than a slice, which often causes the ball to rise and sit up for opponents.

Defensive corner play relies on reading the glass sequence. If the ball hits the side wall before the back wall, step away to create space. If it hits the back wall first, move toward the ball to play it early. Preparation in the corner must be low to facilitate a low-to-high contact point. Overhead shots benefit from moving the feet to get behind the ball and using a controlled push rather than relying on arm speed. Repetition is the primary tool for developing timing and confidence.
