Defensive positioning and footwork technique

Stop flicking at the ball when it gets behind you. Get your feet behind the ball first so you can strike it with control instead of just hoping for the best.
Defending the corner requires a clear decision on movement patterns to avoid misreading the ball trajectory. When a ball travels toward the left foot, the player steps to block the corner, anticipating the sidewall impact. Balls directed at the body or the right foot are tracked to the back wall. Turning the body toward the ball allows the player to remain in a position to recover if the ball hits the sidewall or back wall unexpectedly, whereas stepping out often leaves the player unable to reach the ball if the bounce changes.
A common mistake involves flicking the wrist when the ball is behind the body, which leads to a loss of control and high error rates. To fix this, the player focuses on getting the feet behind the ball before striking, ensuring a clean contact rather than a desperate reach. By consistently positioning the body to meet the ball in front, the player maintains better control and accuracy even under pressure. This approach is most effective for players struggling with consistency in tight defensive situations.
