Where should I place my lob to avoid being smashed?

The lob serves as a tactical tool to gain time and force opponents into difficult positions rather than just a way to pass them. Players should prioritize hitting the ball from a comfortable, balanced position in front of the body. When the weight shifts to the back foot, it is safer to play a low ball instead of attempting a lob. Aiming for the middle of the court provides the most margin for error and limits the opponent's ability to use angles for a counter-attack or a kick smash.
Avoid playing lobs when stuck deep near the back glass, as this gives opponents too much time to prepare their overheads. Instead, use a flatter, quicker lob when closer to the net to reduce the opponent's reaction time. When playing from the right side, aim for the left shoulder of the forehand player to restrict their movement. Always evaluate personal skill levels by testing shots in training; if a specific placement or speed cannot be hit consistently, stick to simpler, higher-percentage options to maintain court position.
