The kick bandeja serves as a defensive tool when a lob forces the player toward their non-playing shoulder. Instead of struggling to hit a standard bandeja in front of the body, the player contacts the ball at its highest point to generate lateral spin. This spin directs the ball toward the side fence or the side wall, pushing the opponent away from the center of the court.

By forcing the opponent to move sideways to retrieve the ball, the player gains sufficient time to recover the net position. If the ball lands too centrally, the opponent gains an opportunity to attack or reach the net. The goal remains consistent with all bandeja variations: secure the net position rather than aiming for an immediate winner. This technique suits players who find themselves under pressure from deep lobs that pull them out of their ideal hitting zone.
