This constant adjustment prevents leaving open spaces and forces opponents to play more shots to the same defender, reducing the need for excessive running.
Footwork is essential for these transitions. When preparing for a ball, pivot with the right foot so the toes point toward the corner. Keep the backswing small and compact to maintain control and disguise the shot. Whether executing a chiquita, a lob, or a soft shot to the feet, the technique must be set before contact. A compact swing allows for versatility, making it difficult for opponents to read the intent. When defending, aim to keep the ball low over the net to neutralize the net position of the opponents. This system is most effective when partners communicate and agree on their movement patterns beforehand.
