Defensive patience and net transition tactics

Patience defines the defensive phase. Players must keep the ball deep, aiming for the yellow line behind the service box to maintain control. When the opponents hit a bandeja or vibora, the defenders should not rush to force a winner. Instead, they must work the point from the back, waiting for a clear opportunity to transition forward. Rushing a shot from a defensive position often leads to unforced errors or losing the net position entirely.

Movement is vital when anticipating the opponent's shot. If the opponent prepares for a vibora, the defender must avoid standing still near the glass, opting instead to move forward or adjust their stance. When a defender decides to cross the yellow line to attack, they must be committed to winning the net. Losing the net after crossing this line results in losing the point. Defenders should focus on simple, deep lobs rather than risky, high-speed shots that invite the opponent to finish the point.
