Bandeja placement: crosscourt targets
The Padel School
Bandeja ยท Beginner, Intermediate, High Intermediate
Aim crosscourt to keep the ball away from the center and protect your net position. If you are too far back to recover, let the ball bounce to maintain a solid defensive partnership.
The bandeja serves as a defensive overhead intended to allow the player to recover the net position. Beginners should hit 95% of these shots crosscourt to minimize the risk of hitting the back glass and to prevent opening up the middle of the court. Hitting crosscourt also utilizes the double glass to slow the ball down if it is overhit.
Intermediate players often struggle with depth, hitting shots that are either too short and easily attacked or too deep, allowing opponents to block the ball and advance. The target area for an intermediate player is the opponent's feet. If the ball is too deep to allow for a return to the net, it is better to let the ball bounce and play it after the glass to maintain a defensive structure with your partner.
Advanced players rely on partner communication to identify opponent positioning before choosing a target. While down-the-line shots are used, they carry a risk of exposing the court. The middle remains a high-percentage target to force opponents back or to exploit gaps when they move forward. Accuracy at this level is developed through repetitive practice aiming for specific zones, such as the side glass or the opponent's toes.
