Bandeja defense: positioning and wall usage

Defending a bandeja requires staying behind the service line. Moving forward during a bandeja exchange often leads to poor contact points and lost control. Players should maintain a low stance to handle balls that bounce twice against the walls, as these shots typically drop in height. When the ball is low, keep the preparation low to allow for a flat, open-stance return. If the ball is high, match the racket preparation height to the ball to ensure a solid, higher contact point.

Footwork is critical when tracking the ball toward the glass. For a backhand, lead with the left foot to remain mobile and avoid getting stuck. If the opponent hits a fast ball that forces a deep rebound, turning the body is necessary to execute a forehand. Use the left hand to track the ball's path and keep the body compact. When the opponent hits from near the fence, expect more angle on the rebound and shift position accordingly. Taking the ball before it hits the back wall prevents losing the point on balls that die in the corner.
