Babolat Air Veron 20227.8

Conclusion

The Air Veron 2022 moves fast and makes bandejas and viboras come off almost by themselves. It suits beginners and intermediates who swing with control. Hard hitters should look elsewhere: the sweet spot is small and the ball dies on off-centre contact.

Padel Racket Review - Babolat Air Veron 2022

Always gets an "A" for effort from the coach. That tells you enough about his technique.

LinkedIn

The Air Veron 2022 is the most attacking and lightest-feeling model in Babolat's Veron line, which sits one step below the all-carbon Viper range. Babolat builds all three Verons from Carbon Flex, a carbon and fiberglass mix that plays softer than the Vipers, and aims the Air at players who build their game in the air. Not much changed for the following season: the 2023 version mainly got new paint, a slightly higher handle bulge and a strap change system.

What the Reviewers Say

What the reviewers say

Coach Hugo Cases tested the whole Veron line with students of different levels. He calls the Air the most manageable of the three and his favourite overhead racket: it is "the one that conquered me the most" on bandejas and viboras. His main criticism is the sweet spot. Against fast balls he found that off-centre hits lost a lot of speed, and he says the more effort he put in, the less the racket gave back.

Padel.FYI rates it 8.0 out of 10 from four expert reviews and calls it "so easy in the aerial game", recommending it to intermediates who want an agile all-round racket. Its reviewers disagree on the sweet spot: one calls it large, the others small. Padelful scores it 8.1 overall, with power and maneuverability above its sweet spot score, which matches the picture of a quick racket that needs clean contact.

How it plays..

Our take: Kaj's summary

The Air Veron is easy to play well with at a relaxed tempo, and that is where it shines. The catch for a developing player is the small sweet spot: mishits near the bottom of the face lose pace fast, so it rewards clean technique more than it forgives a raw one. Players who want more margin on off-centre hits should look at the Counter Veron first.

Defense

In defense the low weight is a real help: fast reactions and quick racket changes are easy. Balls off the back wall at moderate speed come out well. Against heavy, fast balls you need to centre the shot or the return falls short.

Attack

Overheads are its strongest area. Bandejas and viboras need little effort and the ball comes off the back glass well. Flat smashes are fine with good contact, but there is no big power reserve: hitting harder does not give much more speed.

Netplay

At the net it is quick and takes spin well. Placing the racket and letting the ball do the work gives the best results. Firm punch volleys against fast balls need precise contact.

Our Advice for New Players

A good option for beginners who want a light, quick racket. Expect some dead shots on mishits while your contact point is still settling.

Our Advice for Intermediate Players

The best fit. Intermediates who play at a controlled tempo and like to attack with bandejas and viboras will get the most out of it.

Competitive level

Advanced players with a fast ball will find it short on power and punch. The Babolat Air Viper is the better choice at that level.

How It Compares

How it compares

The Counter Veron 2022 is heavier but has a bigger face and a more forgiving sweet spot, so it suits developing players who mishit often. The Air Viper 2022 uses a stiffer all-carbon build with more power for advanced attackers.
