Vibora technique: control and body rotation
Key takeaway from our Guru
How can I improve my vibora control?
Keep your left hand active to help with body rotation and timing. Ensure your shoulders stay horizontal and your elbow remains high to prevent hitting the ball upwards.
What this lesson covers
The vibora requires precise preparation and body positioning to maintain control. The left hand acts as a reference point for timing and assists in rotating the upper body. Keep the tension in the left hand equal to the right hand to avoid an early, floppy motion that leads to errors. Freeze the racket preparation early rather than moving it while the ball is still in flight. Position the racket behind or slightly above the head to ensure a fluent swing path.
Maintain an elbow height of at least 90 degrees to prevent hitting the ball upwards. Move sideways and backwards to create space, ensuring the ball is hit away from the body rather than too close. Keep the shoulders horizontal throughout the shot to avoid the cartwheel effect common in tennis players. Avoid dropping the body weight during contact, as this causes the ball to hit the net. Focus on hitting the ball next to the body or in front, depending on the target direction, to avoid excessive wrist action and late contact.
