Vibora technique: contact point and follow-through

ViboraApr 18, 2022

Key takeaway from our Guru

How can I improve my vibora follow-through?

Prepare your racket higher, at least at eye level, to allow your arm to fully extend. Focus on hitting the ball well in front of you and to your right side, keeping your grip relaxed to let the racket head finish pointing toward the back wall.

What this lesson covers

The vibora requires a contact point far to the right and in front of the body. Players often struggle to follow through because they prepare too low or stand too close to the ball. A high preparation, with the elbow at eye level, allows the arm to extend fully after contact. The racket head should finish pointing toward the back wall to ensure the full motion is completed.

Relaxing the grip pressure prevents the swing from cutting off prematurely. When the preparation is high in the player's mind, the actual physical position is usually correct. This high start allows the player to accelerate through the ball smoothly rather than forcing the speed. A softer, controlled shot with heavy side slice is more effective than a high-pace smash, as it forces the ball to stick to the side glass and stay low.

Moving backward to create space is essential for maintaining the correct distance from the ball. Once the vibora is hit, the player should wait before rushing to the net, allowing the partner to cover the middle of the court. This lesson is for players who find their vibora finishing short or hitting the net.
