Vibora defense: positioning and shot selection

Defending the vibora requires precise court positioning to minimize the opponent's angles. Players often stand too close to the center, which leaves the side wall and corners vulnerable. The primary goal is to anticipate the bounce and take the ball before it reaches the glass whenever possible. By moving closer to the side wall, the defender covers both the fence and the first glass, forcing the attacker to reconsider their placement. If the ball lands in front of the service line, blocking or volleying is preferred to maintain net pressure. When the ball lands behind the line, using the glass provides more time to reset the point.

Footwork is critical when the ball is directed toward the feet. Rotating the body to face the side wall creates a better angle for a controlled return. Closing the racket face slightly during the block adds a touch of spin, preventing the ball from floating. When the lob is short, the defender must gamble and step forward to attack. The most effective defensive strategy involves reading the opponent's patterns and keeping the ball low at their feet to prevent them from hitting a comfortable overhead.
