Vibora and bandeja: reading the opponent's preparation

Distinguishing between a bandeja and a vibora allows a player to decide whether to hold the back court or move to the net. If the opponent prepares for a vibora, the player should move forward to volley the ball rather than letting it hit the glass. Letting a vibora hit the back glass grants the opponent time to recover their balance and return to the net position.

When the opponent hits a volley into the corner, the player must intercept the ball before it bounces. Volleying this shot shortens the opponent's reaction time and prevents them from resetting their position. If the opponent hits a ball that allows for a counter, the player can choose to play a lob or a drive down the middle. This tactical awareness suits players who want to pressure opponents by denying them time to recover.
