Transition to net: moving up after a low shot

The coach teaches how to advance from the back of the court to the net position when a defensive shot allows it. The goal is to gain the net to avoid defending, rather than trying to win the point immediately with a smash. When a ball floats or sits high, the player hits a soft shot downward to force the opponents to block, giving the player time to move forward. If the ball is low, the player hits a chiquita or a lob to keep the opponents from attacking.

Movement happens in two stages. The player hits the ball, moves forward, and stops to assess the next shot. If the opponent plays a difficult ball, the player retreats. If the ball is manageable, the player stays at the net. The coach emphasizes hitting toward the middle to restrict the opponents' angles and keeping the paddle straight for a flat trajectory. This strategy suits players who struggle with prolonged defense and need to transition to the net to stay in the game.
