Topspin smash: technique for clearing the fence

Generating topspin requires brushing up the back of the ball rather than slicing around the side. This vertical rotation ensures the ball rises after hitting the back glass. Practice this motion by standing halfway up the court and attempting to kick the ball over the fence with spin alone.

Aim the bounce midway between the service line and the net to maintain momentum. A bounce that is too deep loses height off the glass, while a bounce that is too short lacks the speed to clear the fence. Target the back glass approximately two meters in from the side wall. Bouncing the ball too close to the side glass causes it to deflect back into the court, while a central bounce lacks the necessary angle to exit over the fence.
