Effective court coverage requires clear communication between partners regarding who takes the middle ball. When a lob is hit high into the center, the player on the left should typically take the shot to allow for a vibora or bajada, while the partner covers the down-the-line space. Calling the shot early and loudly ensures both players maintain a stable net position rather than drifting backward.

Players often make the mistake of taking large, unnecessary steps, which forces them out of position and leaves the court open for an opponent's chiquita. Keeping steps small and staying closer to the net allows for more aggressive volleys. When forced into a defensive position, it is better to prioritize patience and wait for a clear opening rather than rushing a shot. If a player cannot play in front of or behind the opponents, aiming for the body is a reliable tactical choice. Consistently moving opponents from the net to the back of the court creates the space needed to retake the net effectively.
