Creating space involves moving opponents out of their preferred positions by playing into the center of the court. This forces the defender to shift, leaving the corner or the fence area open for the next shot. When defending against a vibora, playing to the center remains a reliable option to avoid giving the attacker an easy angle to the side glass or back wall.
During rallies, directing balls to the opponent's backhand volley limits their ability to generate pace or create sharp angles. If a player finds themselves in a defensive position, playing the ball straight is safer than going cross-court. This tactic prevents the ball from landing in the middle where it could easily rebound off the glass toward a partner. When forced to defend a difficult ball, aiming for the opponent's feet or playing high on their backhand volley makes it harder for them to return the ball effectively. These drills emphasize identifying the correct moment to open the court versus when to maintain a neutral pattern in the center.
