Singles court drills for precision and control
Key takeaway from our Guru
How can I improve my accuracy using a singles padel court?
Use the singles court to force yourself into tighter target areas. If you can maintain precision and control your shots around the glass in this narrow space, you will find much more room to work with on a standard court.
What this lesson covers
Training on a singles court demands high accuracy due to the narrow playing area. The first drill establishes rhythm by hitting cross-court from the back while the partner returns down the line. This requires players to cover both corners, increasing the intensity compared to a standard doubles court.
Subsequent drills focus on specific shot combinations and directional changes. One exercise involves hitting three volleys cross-court before changing the direction down the line, while the backcourt player maintains a consistent cross-court trajectory. Another drill practices the figure-of-eight pattern, alternating between volleys and down-the-line shots. The session also includes a sequence where the backcourt player alternates between hitting to the volley and hitting a lob to the bandeja, which then opens the point for free play.
These exercises force players to adapt to smaller target areas and tighter angles. Mastering these movements on a singles court makes the standard court feel significantly larger and provides better control over the glass.
