2:22Ready position and split step for early preparation
The Padel School
Beginner, Intermediate
You must get your racket back early before the ball bounces. If your racket is already in position, you only need to focus on adjusting your feet to the ball.
Effective shot preparation relies on three core elements: ready, read, and react. The ready position requires an athletic stance on the toes, with the racket held vertically at the net or lower at the back of the court. Players must remain alert and expect every ball to come to them, avoiding the common mistake of ball-watching while the partner is hitting.
Reading the game involves analyzing the situation, the opponent's body shape, and the trajectory of the oncoming ball. This anticipation allows for early preparation. The reaction phase involves a split step and immediate pivoting to the side of the ball. Getting the racket back early is the most critical physical component, as it allows the player to focus solely on footwork adjustments before contact. This sequence applies to all shots, from the bandeja to the vibora, and serves as the foundation for technical development.
