How do I put pressure on opponents when playing on the right side?
Play your high volleys and soft viboras toward the side fence with plenty of spin. Ensure you make contact well in front of your body and rotate your torso to keep the ball sticking to the glass.
What this lesson covers
Attacking from the right side relies on specific placement rather than raw speed. When playing a high forehand volley, aim cross-court toward the fence. Contact the ball well in front of the body to ensure the angle stays wide. If reaching for the ball, play it to the center instead to maintain court balance. When executing this, move toward the center to cover the gap created by the angle.
For the vibora or kick smash, prioritize spin and placement over power. Keep the contact point high, ideally between the ear and shoulder, and rotate the body sideways to generate side spin. This causes the ball to stick to the side glass, making it difficult to defend. If the ball is low, use a drop shot to the corner to force the opponent forward. Only change the angle or play these tactical shots when positioned comfortably at the net. If forced to move, play the ball cross-court or to the center to avoid leaving the court exposed.
