Conversely, when a serve has high spin or hits the back wall, the ball slows down, providing more time to set up for a lob. Using the side wall can also help take pace off the ball to create an opening for a lob.
Positioning of the server dictates the best target. If the server rushes the net without a split step, a lob forces them to track back. If they play an Australian formation, a low return forces them to cover more ground, making their first volley more difficult. Avoid slice on slice returns; play flat or with topspin to keep the contact point below the net. A small backswing is essential for control, followed by a long, slow follow-through. Prepare the racket low to match the incoming ball height, ensuring the racket face remains straight for low returns and open for lobs.
