Padel volley: improving slice and contact point

Key takeaway from our Guru

How do I hit a more aggressive padel volley with better slice?

Stop hitting the ball too far in front of you. Wait for the ball to arrive more to your side so you can follow through forward and generate slice instead of just blocking.

What this lesson covers

Tennis players often strike the ball too far in front of the body, which limits the ability to follow through and generate effective slice. To correct this, the coach instructs players to wait for the ball and make contact further to the side. This adjustment allows for a longer follow-through, which pushes the ball deeper into the corners. When hitting the forehand volley, the player should focus on pushing the racket forward toward the target rather than moving it sideways. Keeping the left hand steady or stepping into the shot helps maintain this forward motion.

For the backhand volley, the coach uses the image of elbowing someone in the face to ensure the preparation starts high. Raising the left elbow creates the necessary height to strike down through the ball, which adds both pace and slice. If the ball is above the net, the player should aim to strike down with slice. If the ball is lower than the net, a flatter contact is preferred. To avoid excessive slice that slows the ball down, the player should stop the racket motion early rather than following through across the body. Crossing the right foot over when stepping into the shot helps close the body position and improves control.

How We Changed His Tennis Volley Into This Advanced Padel Volley.

Description

Please subscribe and hit the notification bell, let's get 60K subscribers this year! Ladies and gentlemen welcome back on the channel! Today we focus on the forehand volley and the backhand volley of Mathijs. Mathijs has been playing padel for around 6 years after playing a lot of tennis. This is also why we trained his volleys. In my opinion most tennis players feel like they have good volleys and they don't have to train that. I think it's one of the most important things to change, because it will hurt you on the long run. It will be very difficult to change your volley after playing a lot of padel. Most tennis players have the tendency of hitting the volley early and that is wrong. You will hit your volley very flat and you will be unable to generate slice with the volleys. So in this video we will focus on hitting the ball later and to find ways of generating the right amount of slice. ~ 10% discount if you visit my online padel shop.
