Opponent movement often signals the quality of the lob, helping to filter out high-risk options immediately. If the ball lands short, prioritize aggressive smashes, whereas deep lobs typically require defensive shots like the bandeja or gancho.

Next, evaluate the trajectory of the ball relative to the body. Balls arriving on the open side provide the space necessary for a vibora or bandeja. Conversely, balls crossing over the shoulder on the closed side restrict movement, making a gancho or a controlled topspin smash more appropriate. This spatial awareness dictates which technique is physically possible to execute.

Finally, align the shot choice with the intended outcome. Define whether the goal is to finish the point or simply reset the rally. Once a decision is made, commit fully to the execution.
