How do I hold the net during a padel match?
Keep your volleys low by aiming for the opponent's body or the side fence when you have no angle. Control the pace in the middle to prevent the ball from bouncing high and allowing your opponents to lob.
What this lesson covers
To hold the net, avoid playing fast balls into the center when the court is warm, as the ball bounces high and gives the opponents an easy lob. Instead, use the middle to limit opponent angles while keeping the pace controlled. If an opponent plays a fast ball at your body, aim for the side fence to keep the ball low and maintain your position. When you have no angle to work with, a fast ball to the opponent's body prevents them from setting up a clean shot.
During defense, force the opponents to play from the corners rather than giving them the center. If you are serving, maintain pressure with a deep first volley. Once you lose that pressure, the advantage shifts to the defenders. Communication with your partner is vital when a tactical error occurs, such as rushing the net or playing a ball too fast. Agree on whether to continue applying pressure or to reset the point.
