Winning tough matches requires shifting from a high-speed game to a patient, varied approach. When opponents are steady and rarely make unforced errors, accelerating every shot often leads to losing control of the net. Instead, focus on slowing down the tempo of overheads like the bandeja and vibora, particularly when aiming for the center of the court. This change in speed and angle prevents the ball from popping up, which otherwise allows opponents to counter with a chiquita or take over the net position.

Effective returns are essential for neutralising pressure. Prioritize hitting returns low at the feet or using a lob to force opponents back. Avoid cross-court lobs when the player on the other side is well-positioned; instead, lob straight over the player closer to the net to force them to retreat. Finally, avoid over-analyzing during the match. Carrying too many tactical thoughts creates mental fatigue, which slows down physical movement. Choose one clear objective, such as targeting the weaker player or maintaining a high first-serve percentage, and commit to that plan.
