Intermediate players often fall into the trap of moving toward the net after a lob, mirroring tennis habits. This movement leaves the player stranded in no-man's land, vulnerable to balls hit behind them. Proper transition requires staying behind the service line until the ball is controlled, then moving forward as a pair to secure the net. When at the net, avoid stepping across the court during a volley, as this leaves an open gap down the line. Keep the volley direction consistent or aim toward the center to maintain control.

Defending against a smash requires immediate movement toward the net the moment the opponent prepares their shot. Hesitation often results in being caught out of position. Regarding shot selection, avoid unnecessary drop shots. These high-risk plays are rarely needed at the intermediate level. Instead, play short volleys toward the fence with margin for error. Patience is the primary tool for winning points, as forcing aggressive angles often leads to unforced errors and loss of the net position.
