Handling balls close to the side and back glass

Balls landing near the side glass require a choice between two techniques. The first involves a fly-swatting motion where the racket moves parallel to the glass to strike the ball without contact. Alternatively, allow the ball to bounce off the side glass before returning it over the net. This second option often provides more space for a controlled swing.

When a lob lands near the back glass, especially with spin that causes it to drop vertically, players have three defensive options. Move back early to hit a bandeja before the ball reaches the glass. Attempt a defensive lob by scooping the ball upwards, though this carries higher risk. Finally, use the back glass as a rebound surface by striking the ball against it with topspin to send it over the net. Anticipating the trajectory early allows for a better decision on whether to take the ball before or after it hits the glass. Using the glass as a backup remains a viable strategy when caught in a difficult position.
