3:16Lob selection: timing and ball height

You must learn to loosen your wrist and hand when you shift your grip. This relaxation allows you to redirect the ball or lift a lob from low positions where a standard grip would fail.
Adjusting the grip during a rally allows players to reach balls that are otherwise impossible to return. When defending a ball low near the side glass, shifting toward a backhand grip while keeping the hand loose enables the player to direct the ball toward the feet of an opponent at the net. This adjustment creates angles that a standard continental grip cannot reach.
Changing the grip also serves as a tool for surprise. By rotating the racket face toward the ceiling while using a backhand-style grip on a low forehand ball, the player can lift a lob over an opponent who expects a low drive. For balls hit deep into the corner, particularly against a vibora or bandeja, the coach advises loosening the wrist to redirect the ball cross-court toward the player who is further back. Success depends on keeping the hand relaxed and using the wrist to guide the ball rather than relying on a rigid arm movement.
