Defensive positioning to win the net

Aggressive play from the back of the court relies on positioning rather than speed. Players should stand close enough to the side glass that they can touch it with an outstretched arm, while remaining one step forward from the back fence. This position allows for a quick reaction to fast balls while providing more time to play slow shots when the opponent hits between the player and the white line. When the opponent hits the ball below the net, the player should step over the white line to play a soft shot at the opponent's feet or a lob to move toward the net.

Teamwork requires moving together as a unit. If one player hits a ball that forces the opponent to reach below net height, both players should advance. Playing soft shots into the center forces the opponent to move and creates openings. Avoid playing to the opponent's forehand, as it offers more angles for a return. Instead, target the backhand to limit their options. When both players are at the net in a parallel formation, the player on the cross-court side covers the second post to handle lobs, while the player on the straight side covers the first post to block chiquitas.
