The left side requires more movement and aggressive play, often suited for players with a powerful smash who control the middle of the court with overheads. The right side demands a strategic approach, focusing on point construction and game control. Left-handed players typically occupy the right side to ensure both partners have forehands available in the center.
Court position dictates the outcome of points more frequently than shot technique. When defending at the back, the objective is to earn the net position through lobs or chiquitas rather than hitting winners. Once at the net, maintaining distance is vital to avoid leaving space behind. Drifting too far forward allows opponents to lob effectively, forcing a loss of control. Players must remain patient at the net and only advance further when both opponents are forced deep into their own court.
