5:34Bandeja technique: contact and body position

Keep your racket high during preparation to ensure a downward swing path. Aim for a flatter contact point to make the ball run deeper toward the glass, giving you more time to recover your position at the net.
The bandeja serves as a defensive tool to maintain net position when an opponent lobs. Players should initiate the movement by turning the body sideways and preparing the racket high, keeping the elbow up to ensure the swing path travels from high to low. Using the non-dominant arm to track the ball helps stabilize the body and maintain distance. Large steps are preferred over small ones during the transition from the net to the hitting zone.
Impact should occur in front of the body at head height or slightly higher to prevent hitting the net. A flatter contact, roughly sixty percent flat to forty percent slice, allows the ball to travel deeper and reach the glass, which provides more time to recover the net. The finish must remain compact and extended, avoiding a low follow-through that sends the ball into the net. Strategically, aiming cross-court toward the corner maximizes the distance the ball must travel, forcing opponents to stay back and creating space to reclaim the net. This lesson is best suited for players looking to transition from basic volleys to controlled defensive overheads.
