The bandeja serves as a tactical tool to maintain net position rather than a purely aggressive shot. When facing a deep lob, the priority is to play a controlled ball that allows time to recover the net. Aiming for the opponent's feet or using a change of direction forces a defensive block, which creates an opportunity for the partner to pressure the next ball. If the lob is too difficult to attack, a slower, deeper shot ensures the pair stays together at the net.

Decision making dictates the choice between a bandeja and a vibora. A more lifted, slower bandeja works well on slower courts, while a flatter, faster vibora applies pressure when the ball is positioned correctly. Regardless of the shot choice, players must move forward as a block after the impact. If the partner remains behind, the opponent can easily lob again, leaving the pair vulnerable. The most effective approach involves reading the opponent's position and choosing the target based on the quality of the incoming lob.
