Bandeja defence: positioning and tactical patience

Defending against overheads requires adjusting your position based on the opponent's location and the speed of their shot. When the ball is deep in the court, move back slowly to maintain balance and avoid being caught out of position. Turn your body to face the opponent early, staying closer to the side glass to cover potential angles while keeping the middle open to react to fast shots. If the court is slow or humid, prioritize blocking or taking the ball before it hits the back glass.

Tactically, the goal is to extend the rally by playing neutral, low balls back to the opponent's feet. Avoid hitting high or floaty shots that allow the attacker to reset. Instead, use lobs or chiquitas to force the opponent to move and prevent them from dictating the point. When playing on the right, favor the forehand to maintain a wider court coverage and better control over the ball's direction. Stay active and ready, spending more time in the defensive zone to build consistency before attempting a counterattack.
