The bajada serves as a transition tool to regain the net position after being pushed back by a lob. The player strikes the ball firmly, aiming for gaps or angles to force a defensive block from the opponent, which allows time to move forward immediately after contact. Combining a firm strike with spin prevents the opponent from attacking the return.

This shot complements a strong aerial game, including the bandeja and vibora. By mastering the bajada, a player forces opponents to hit higher quality lobs, as they cannot afford to leave short balls that allow for an aggressive transition to the net.
