Bajada selection: matching shots to lob height

A bajada requires hitting the ball downwards after it bounces off the glass. Selecting the correct version depends primarily on the height and bounce of the incoming lob. A high lob allows for a smash bajada, which offers maximum power and variation by directing the ball at the opponent's body or into the center. Because this shot is fast and produces a high rebound, the player must stay back rather than rushing to the net. Against opponents who struggle with blocking, a fast, deep shot into the corner is effective, while a softer version toward the fence works better against players positioned further back.

Medium-height lobs are better suited for a bandeja or vibora bajada. These shots involve a lower contact point, which makes it harder to target the opponent's feet compared to a smash bajada. The bandeja adds backspin, causing the ball to float, which gives the net players more time to react. For balls around shoulder height, a topspin bajada allows for soft, angled shots toward the fence. Finally, the backhand bajada is a useful option for balls in the middle or parallel lobs, as the body turn hides the direction of the shot from the net players. This selection process is most helpful for players looking to transition from defensive lobs to offensive pressure.
