Back glass boast: technique and tactical use

The back glass boast serves as a defensive tool when a player cannot get behind the ball to execute a standard shot. The primary objective is to strike the ball against the upper portion of the back glass to create a high, deep lob that clears the opponents at the net. Aiming too low results in a ball that sits up for an easy volley, while insufficient power makes the shot predictable.

Tactical application depends on court position. When positioned behind the service line, the high lob remains the preferred choice. If caught in front of the service line, the target area on the glass shrinks, increasing the risk of hitting the fence or providing an easy ball. In these closer positions, a fast, flat shot directed low toward the opponents is more effective than a lob. Practice this shot by focusing on the forehand side first, hitting with enough power to send the ball high and deep while accounting for the spin generated off the glass.
