Advanced defensive tactics and transition play

Key takeaway from our Guru

When should I choose a lob versus a chiquita in defense?

Choose the lob when the ball is high off the back glass to buy time. If the ball is low, play a chiquita toward the center to force your opponents to volley upward while you move to the net.

What this lesson covers

Defensive play relies on deciding between a lob and a chiquita based on the height of the ball off the back glass. When the ball is high, a lob provides time to recover to the net. When the ball is low, a chiquita forces the net players to volley upward, allowing for a transition to the net. The coach emphasizes that the preparation must remain low, with the racket touching the floor to ensure the player stays below the ball before executing either shot.

To successfully transition to the net, aim the lob or chiquita toward the center of the court. This forces the opponents to move and cover space, creating angles that make it difficult for them to attack. Avoid playing down the line, as this gives the cross-court opponent an easy path to attack the open space. The most important step is the initial movement toward the ball, followed by active footwork to gain court position. This approach works best for players who want to move beyond passive defending and start dictating the rally from the back of the court.

My NEW Aggressive Padel Defending Tactic

Description

Please subscribe, let's get 20K subscribers this year! I highly recommend to start doing this tactic once you use the walls correctly. When you do that, it is possible to do more from the back of the court. Because with this method you are able to outplay the netplayers more and to put them in the position where they don't want to be. If you are not great with the walls, I highly recommend to slow the balls down and to play a lot of lobs when you can, so it's a little bit easier to defend the ball. Once you know how to use the wall, I highly recommend to variate the speed and the height of the ball and maybe play more chiquitas in order to get that netposition. If you want to play more chiquitas you need to be very confident about your volleys. ~ Would you like to learn more?
