Effective net positioning requires shifting with a partner to cover the middle and the line. When a ball travels down the line, both players adjust to protect those specific gaps. Diagonal shots require a shift toward the middle to minimize the opponent's available angles. If an opponent remains at the back of the court, an approach shot with depth allows for a transition to the net. When rallies become chaotic or opponents split, a high lob serves to reset the position and regain control.

Overhead and volley speed correlates to court position. Closer to the net, players use more spin and faster pace. Further back, shots require more height and a slower tempo to allow time for recovery. Defensively, playing down the line keeps the ball predictable off the glass. Attacking play favors cross-court targets to maximize court space and create difficult angles. Combining a volley to the middle followed by a corner shot forces movement, while a chiquita followed by a lob disrupts the opponent's rhythm. Aiming for the cage from a wide position adds unpredictability to the rally.
