Padel return technique: handling glass serves

The primary objective of the return is to force the opponents to play the ball. Consistency outweighs power, as every ball that crosses the net creates an opportunity for an unforced error. When receiving serves, maintain a low ready position to counter the slice commonly used by servers. If the serve is not tight to the side glass, anticipate the ball and step forward to take it early. If the serve is sharp and forces you toward the glass, allow the ball to hit the glass and use the rebound to set up your shot.

Because the serve carries pace, avoid trying to generate additional power. Instead, focus on adjusting your position and keeping the racket in front to redirect the ball toward the server's feet. This forces the server to volley from a low position, which makes their subsequent shot less aggressive. When pivoting for a backhand return, use the left leg to adjust to the ball's trajectory and slice. Apply the mirror effect for forehand returns by using the opposite leg. Regardless of the server's technique, the goal remains the same: keep the ball in play and target the player transitioning from the back of the court.
