Net attacking: patience and shot selection

Net position does not require an aggressive finish on every ball. Players often mistake proximity to the net for a license to force winners, leading to unforced errors. The coach suggests maintaining a neutral game when opponents defend well or play deep balls to the feet. Use a scale of one to ten for shot intensity, keeping most volleys at a six or seven to maintain pressure without taking unnecessary risks. Only increase intensity to an eight or nine when a clear opportunity arises.

When moving an opponent to the corner with aerial shots, the standard volley target is the middle of the court to minimize rebound. If the opponent returns a low ball quickly, repeat the shot to the center or target the corner if they are slow to recover. Focus on consistency and volume rather than power. Vary the pace with short balls or drop shots, but prioritize simplicity and solidity to keep the opponent under pressure until the right moment to finish the point.
