Net and defense tactics: court positioning and strategy
Key takeaway from our Guru
What are effective padel tactics to win more points?
Focus on moving your opponent by alternating your shots between the middle and the corners. When you feel under pressure, reset the rally by playing the ball down the middle to regain control.
What this lesson covers
Attacking from the net position relies on moving opponents by alternating volleys between the middle and the corners. This combination forces movement and creates gaps. When defending, the goal is to move the opponent backward and forward by alternating lobs with short balls like chiquitas. This rhythm tires the opponent and forces them to play volleys from below net height, preventing them from attacking effectively.
Defense is structured around three zones. Zone one is for low balls near the net, zone two is for neutral balls at body height, and zone three is for lobs. When under pressure, play to zone two to survive. When receiving an easy ball, choose zone one or three to regain the net. During rallies, focus on one opponent to break them down rather than switching targets. Finally, use the middle of the court to reset the rally when under pressure, which creates space to restart an attacking sequence.
