Middle court tactics: building points and creating gaps

Building the point through the middle of the court limits the opponent's ability to create angles. When players stay in the center, they restrict the court space and force opponents to defend from a neutral position. This strategy avoids the risks associated with playing wide, where the court opens up and allows the opposition to hit aggressive angles or find the fence. The coach demonstrates that consistent middle play forces opponents to move and eventually creates gaps for a decisive shot.

Once the opponent is forced out of their comfort zone, look for opportunities to play towards the fence or execute a short ball. These shots do not need to be hit with high power to be effective. The goal is to move the opponent out of position and disrupt their rhythm. When the opponent returns from a wide position, they are often stretched, which creates new openings. Prioritize playing through the center until a clear gap appears or an easy ball presents itself, as this approach is most effective for players looking to control the pace and reduce unforced errors.
