Pivot early to get around the ball and hit a forehand instead of a backhand. If the lob comes to your left shoulder, aim for the middle of the court to stay consistent.
Playing the overhead on the deuce side requires moving around the ball to hit a forehand rather than a backhand. Pivoting early allows the player to position the ball on the right side for better control and more tactical options. When the lob arrives over the left shoulder, the coach suggests hitting toward the middle of the court. This maintains a solid structure and keeps the opponent from anticipating the direction of the shot.
Balls arriving directly overhead offer different possibilities. Aiming for the opponent's feet or the side glass forces the defender to move or spin, which buys time for the attacking team. When the lob is wide, the player can choose between an offensive shot toward the fence or a shot from the middle toward the outside. Consistency in the overhead game relies on simple decision-making based on the ball's trajectory and the opponent's position.
